My freezer is cold but not cold enough. Is that a repair?
Usually yes. Partial cooling often points to restricted airflow, a failing evaporator fan, or the early stage of a defrost problem. It rarely fixes itself. Getting it looked at before the compressor works itself to death is the cheaper path.
Should I defrost it manually first?
You can, and it sometimes buys a few days. But if heavy frost returns within a week, the defrost circuit is the real fault. Tell us whether manual defrosting helped — that detail narrows the diagnosis quite a bit.
Do you work on chest freezers in basements and garages?
